I have always loved Mamma Mia! since the first time I saw it in Vegas. The first time I saw the commercial advertising it would be at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton and the fact it fell on Ken’s birthday, I decided I wanted to go. Ken immediately said yes when I asked if he wanted to go. Ken picked up our tickets just before Christmas. They were sold out for the day of his birthday so he got them for Sunday evening (last night). It turned out to be a most awesome day!
We left several hours early because Ken wanted to stop in Green Bay and check out televisions at Best Buy and then to Bed, Bath and Beyond so he could pick up a cool coffee travel mug like the one he got me for Christmas. We ended up having a lot of time to kill so we had dinner at Olive Garden. It’s been forever since I ate there and the food was sooo good!! A funny thing happened on our way out of the truck… Ken put his arm around my waist and said, “Thanks for dinner!” I then went to put my arm around his waist and said, “No, thank you.” Well, my arm didn’t exactly go around his waist because he was walking faster than me and my hand ended up on his butt. I said, “Ooops, sorry. Didn’t mean to grab your butt in the middle of the parking lot.” He said, “Sure! I buy you dinner and you think you can take advantage of me!”
We then headed down to Appleton and still arrived early. We were driving through Appleton and while I was preoccupied with my cell phone, I asked Ken where he was going. He said jokingly, “The truck just keeps veering off in this direction!” I looked up and saw several stores and knew exactly where he was heading (TJ Maxx) but couldn’t resist when I saw this other place… “I know where you are going. You are going to Hooters!!” At the very moment I said it and looked for his reaction and noticed he had just taken a drag of his cigarette. His reaction… smoke came blowing out of his mouth as he burst into hysterical laughter and he started coughing (A LOT)! “OHMIGOD”, I said, “Are you okay? Do you need me to smack you on the back? Do you need a drink of something?” He was okay… he just couldn’t quit laughing! I do have to admit that was pretty funny and we still laugh about it today.
Mamma Mia! was, as always, a good show and we have had the ABBA songs stuck in our head still today. The only complaint I had was the woman who was playing Donna (the mother), her voice seemed too soft for the part. Oh yeah! Another funny thing… just after intermission the music started playing to signal Act 2 was going to start and it was pretty loud. The three woman who were sitting in front of us nearly jumped out of their seats! Ken and I both saw it and we laughed. Ken more than I! I had to poke him in the side so he would stop laughing.
